The A3 S-Line sits at the top end of Audi's most popular range, offering improved performance and more aggressive styling to distinguish it from its easier going siblings.
You can choose from 1.2, 1.4, 1.8 and 2.0L turbocharged petrol engines, or a 1.6 and two 2.0L turbo diesels pushing out either 148 or 181bhp, with the 1.4 petrol and lower-powered 2.0 diesel representing the pick of the bunch. All A3 S-Lines are available with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, with the 1.8 petrol and 2.0 diesels coming with the Audi's Quattro four-wheel drive system.
Choose the S-Line model and you'll get a sport-styled body, including deeper bumpers and sill extensions for a more road-hugging stance, complemented by bigger alloys and lower suspension. Meanwhile, behind the wheel you'll enjoy half-leather sports seats, as well as a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel and aluminium dashboard trim inspired by the iconic Audi TT.
The A3 is available in three and five-door hatchbacks, cabriolet and saloon versions. All models should be able to accommodate five typical adults - apart from the cabriolet which can hold four. Luggage capacity is also good on all versions, although choosing all-wheel-drive will take up some of the boot space.
