The Audi A5 Convertible offers elegant good looks, seating for four adults and, because of its traditional cloth top, much more luggage space than its metal folding-roofed rivals - all for less than the equivalent BMW 3 Series Convertible.
Choose an Audi A5 Convertible and you can take your pick of six engines: a 1.8L turbo, 2.0L turbo or 3.0L V6 petrol and an economical 2.0L and two 3.0L turbodiesels. The RS5 adds a ferocious 4.2L V8 petrol unit. All offer great grip and agility, especially on the Quattro models, although the muted steering and firm ride with the larger alloys may not be to everyone's taste.
There are three main trim levels on the A5 Convertible: SE, S-Line and S5. The SE offers leather seats, MP3 compatible stereo, alloys and rear parking sensors. S-Line models give you a sportier body kit, sports seats and an acoustic cloth roof that makes it almost as refined as the coupe. The S5 adds more aggressive sports trim and electrically adjustable sports seats.
With the roof down, the A5 Convertible offers a respectable, hatchback-sized, 320-litre boot and ample space in the back, making this a surprisingly practical option for families who enjoy the open air.
