The Audi RS4 came to market in 1999 as the successor to the RS2 Avant, an Audi with a Porsche-based build that helped earn the RS badge its famed status. The RS4 had undergone several changes over the years, introducing various saloon and cabriolet body styles and a V8 engine. In 2009, Audi decided to stick to their tested and proven estate body style. Audi later introduced a 2.9-litre V6 engine to replace the 4.2-litre V8. Despite its smaller size, the V7 delivers the same 444 bhp as its V8 predecessor. It's is also quicker, timing 0-62 mph in 4.1 seconds and capable of hitting 174 mph, though electronically limited to a maximum of 155 mph.

Used Audi RS4 FAQ's
Is the Audi RS4 fun to drive?
Thanks to its fast-shifting transmission and an exhaust that pops and bangs with each gear shift, The RS4 is among the most exciting hot estate cars. When driving, you can select auto, comfort, individual and dynamic driving modes without losing the RS4's excellent grip on the tarmac. The Dynamic driving mode lowers the car for tighter control, making it ideal for cornering.
How does the Audi RS4 V6 compare against the previous V8?
Audi's decision to trim down to a V6 raised eyebrows among V8-lovers. However, the V6 proved to be just as powerful as the V8, and it was even quicker due to turbocharging. The V6 also increased fuel economy by 3 mpg and measured 338 g/mile of CO2 emissions, significantly less than the 400 g/mile emitted by the earlier V8 engine.
Is the Audi RS4 comfortable for long journeys?
The RS4 has enough headroom to accommodate 4 adults, including the driver and front passenger, who both get racing-style bucket seats. The sports seats reduce the available legroom for backseat occupants, making longer journeys uncomfortable for taller passengers. Nonetheless, provided you don't use dynamic mode on bumpy roads, the RS4 drives well on long, winding roads. However, as it lowers the damping of the suspensions, the RS4 can feel a bit bumpy at times.
How much storage room is in the Audi RS4?
How is the Audi RS4 infotainment system?
Audi refined its infotainment over the years to include all the latest features. It ditched its 8.1-inch display with a rotary dial and introduced a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen unit as a standard, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. In 2018 RS4s and later, the instrument panel comprises Audi's 12.8-inch virtual cockpit, which provides real-time updates on the car's performance and health.
Is the Audi RS4 a safe ride?
The Euro NCAP never tested the Audi RS4. However, a very similar model, the Audi A4, received a 5-star safety rating. It's safe to assume that the Audi RS4 would score the same results as the A4, especially since it has a generous list of standard safety equipment. Features include 6 airbags, pre-sense city braking, side assist, front and rear parking sensors, plus a pop-up bonnet for pedestrian protection during a collision.
