If there's one home grown car manufacturer that perfectly epitomises the plucky Brit, it's Austin. With a turbulent history, the company produced some truly iconic cars that everyone looks back on fondly, even if it's through rose tinted glasses sometimes!
Herbert Austin founded the company in 1905 and had some initial success, especially during the interwar years, with simple small cars like the Twelve and Seven. Fast forward to 1952 and Austin created the Healy, a small sports car with classic charm and sprightly performance. 1959 was a red letter year in the history of motoring however, as it saw the production of one of most famous cars ever to grace the road- the Mini.
The years ahead were tumultuous times for Austin with numerous mergers and changes, but still some household names were produced in the form of the Allegro, Maxi, Metro, Maestro and Sprite. Before its eventual demise in 1987, the company proved in typical British fashion that anything can be achieved with sheer determination and desire, even against the odds.
Not many Austin cars exist today, but it's possible to find a selection of old school Minis and classic Healeys as they are popular for collectors. Obviously there are some variants that are more valuable than others, so looking for those that aren't can allow you to enjoy some classic motoring for less of the cost.
Motors.co.uk is your one stop shop for used Austin cars and there's a nice range available at bargain prices. Big discounts mean the savings you can make on second hand cars for sale are unrivalled, so why not consider something classic in nature?
