If the new generation BMW 3 Series Coupe introduced in 1992 was a good car then, the two main evolutions since have transformed it into a superb one.
The oldest cars you will find, dating from 1992 till 1999, all have smooth six-cylinder engines - but there are no diesel options. For cars produced between 1999 and 2006, 2L and 3L diesel versions were added to the line-up and the most recent models, made from 2006 to 2013, have the very appealing option of 3L twin turbos in both petrol and diesel varieties.
The 3 Series Coupe has also always been a sophisticated and well-built car that is very comfortable for driver and front seat passengers. It has steadily become roomier for rear-seat passengers as the models have evolved. The boot space is pretty generous for a coupe too - though it is obviously limited by the fact that the car is rear-wheel drive.
Equipment levels have also improved with each version of the car and you can expect to find ABS, cruise control and cornering brake control as standard.
For many, this car is the clear leader in its class, particularly if you go for a later model - and there are plenty of used 3 Series Coupes to choose from at Motors.co.uk.
