Engines and transmissions

Dacia has offered a wide range of powertrain options with the Sandero Stepway, including petrol, diesel and LPG. The power was transferred to the front wheels through an automatic or a manual transmission.

Petrol
  • TCe 90 uses mild-hybrid technology to output 89bhp for a 0-60mph time of 11.6 seconds with an efficiency rating of up to 51.4mpg.
  • TCe 110 petrol engine produces 108bhp for a 9.7-second 0-60mph time and achieves a fuel economy rating of 45.6mpg.
  • TCe 100 bi-fuel engine provides a boost to 98bhp, allowing for up to 800 miles of driving when both tanks are full and used in parallel, equating to around 48.7mpg.
  • Older 0.9-litre engine generated 88bhp and around 50mpg, while a 1.0-litre produced 71bhp and 53mpg.
Diesel
  • Older models had a 1.5 dCi that produced 88bhp and an 11.3-second 0-60mph time with an efficiency rating of 74mpg.
  • Earlier 1.5-litre generated 93bhp and achieved an efficiency rating of 72mpg.

Practicality

The Dacia Sandero Stepway is a practical crossover with a fun hatchback style and a spacious interior designed for small families.

Interior space
  • Movement in every direction is available with the front seats and steering wheel.
  • Two adults fit comfortably in the outer rear seats with ample headroom.
  • ISOFIX points are available to secure child seats, and the back seat is well-equipped for bulky, rear-facing models.
Boot space
  • 328-litre boot capacity, which is more than the Kia Picanto and Fiat 500.
  • Split-folding rear seats are available with higher-spec models to increase the amount of boot space.

Adjustable boot floor reduces the lip for easier loading or makes more carrying space.

Safety

  • 2021 Euro NCAP rating is two out of five stars.
  • Child occupant rating is 72%, with adult occupant at 70%.
  • Standard safety kit includes pretensioners and airbags (front and side).

Technology

  • 8.0-inch medial display is standard with all models apart from the base model.
  • Driver display has a digital screen for economy, radio channel and tyre pressure, with two analogue dials for revs and speed.
  • DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity are part of the standard kit.

Different generations of used Dacia Sandero Stepway

The Dacia Sandero Stepway offers a raised suspension, roof rails and rugged plastic cladding over the standard Sandero. Since its introduction, it has been through a total of three generations and several facelifts, ensuring that it remains updated and current.

Third Generation (2021 to Present)

The Stepway model was the most popular of the two Sandero vehicles by this time. For 2020, a new generation was released in the hope of attracting even more buyers. The exterior styling still had much of the Sandero appearance, but there were several unique upgrades.

Inside the vehicle, there was 'Stepway' embroidery on the seatback and orange lines were featured on the vents. The same instrument cluster panel was used as with the Duster, adding some cohesive touches.

Second Generation (2013 to 2021)

Dacia released the second-generation Sandero Stepway at the same time as the conventional Sandero and the Logan. These were the first models Stepway to arrive in the UK. It came with a new front bumper, which was adorned with unpainted and scratch-resistant lower sides. It also came with light-grey roof rails. The interior featured new fabrics and materials, making the Sandero Stepway better value.

A 2016 update offered redesigned LED daytime running lights as part of the options. It also received a new front bumper that was inspired by the style of the Duster. The powertrain options were also revised.

Used Dacia Sandero Stepway FAQ's

Which is the most popular engine in the Dacia Sandero Stepway?

Petrol engines are among the most popular because there were more options available. The entry-level TCe 90 rated for 89bhp is the option that will keep the cost to a minimum, which is what most Sandero Stepway buyers are trying to do.

Which are the most popular model variants?

The newest lineup includes the Essential, Expression and Extreme models, but Comfort and Prestige also used to be options. The Comfort is among the most popular used models, with a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen display, fog lights, automatic wipers and rear parking sensors.

What optional extras should I look out for?

Keen-eyed buyers should look out for the 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. A centre armrest and an electric parking brake are also available on some used examples. You should also look for additional safety features such as blind-spot warning, parking sensors and autonomous emergency braking.

Is the Dacia Sandero Stepway a good family car?

Yes, the Sandero Stepway has adequate interior room for a family. The rear seat is accommodating to baby carriers and includes ISOFIX mounts. There is also a large amount of boot space.

Is there a hybrid version of the Dacia Sandero Stepway?

No, Dacia hasn't released a plug-in hybrid version of the Sandero Stepway. The most efficient model available is the older 1.5 dCi diesel that produces 88bhp and is rated at 74mpg.

Is the Dacia Sandero Stepway available as an automatic?

Yes, Dacia did include a CVT (continuously variable transmission) option with some Sandero Stepway models. However, this automatic transmission isn't a popular choice and it will be a lot easier to find a model with a manual gearbox.

Is there a four-wheel drive version available?

Because the Dacia Sandero Stepway was designed to be a budget-friendly vehicle, four-wheel drive wasn't included as an option. Instead, power is sent to the front wheels with every engine option available.
