Fiat Sedici generations

Mini SUVs are always a lot of fun, and the Fiat Sedici is no different. It looks wonderful and is the same to drive on a daily basis, making it a fantastic little car for families. Comfortable, practical and with a happy go lucky attitude, it's certainly one of the best options in a tightly packed motoring niche.

The Fiat first appeared in 2005 and was developed in conjunction with Suzuki, who sells it as the SX4. Named after the number 16 in Italian (the product of 4x4), the Sedici is available in 5 door hatchback form, and can be bought in 4 or 2 wheel drive variants. It was upgrade in 2009 with some improved design work, and that has only served to make it more attractive to people looking for a versatile little motor.

Best described as cute and full of attitude, it certainly looks the part and has that classic Fiat look, with an additional injection of arrogance. The Sedici knows it looks good, and that frown produced by the bonnet rim and headlights is evidence enough. Seriously though, it's one of the best looking mini SUVs around. Go inside and things are very well presented indeed, with a hardy and solid array of materials. While quality is high, it could be called a little bland, but some good kit across the 'Dynamic' and 'Eleganza' trims more than make up for it. A comfortable driving position, lots of cabin space and a nice sized boot make it a much more practical than a regular hatchback.

To drive, the Fiat is quite sporty, and it feels nicely balanced and composed. The steering has a lot of feel to it and there's no shortage of grip in the bend, but the ride could be called a little firm. There are some nippy engines on offer, especially the 1.9 litre MultiJet diesel, which are more than comfortable cruising around town or at speed on the motorway. While it does have a 4x4 system, the Sedici isn't really a pure off roader and is significantly better on the tarmac than the rough stuff.

Very good value for money in the first place, you can really pick up some incredible deals on the Fiat if you buy second hand. You'll have no trouble finding a real bargain at Motors.co.uk as that's exactly what it specialises in. Listing thousands of high quality used cars for sale at drastically discounted prices, a second hand Fiat Sedici will be nothing short of excellent.

So at the end of the day you're left with a choice- do you go for a regular hatchback or something significantly more practical and versatile like the Fiat Sedici mini SUV? The choice is pretty clear cut, as the Fiat offers so much more and doesn't cost a huge amount either. Nice to drive, it's surprisingly hardy for an Italian and boats a nice level of kit and plenty of space. For family motoring made easy, go for the Fiat.
