The Ford Fiesta has been a familiar sight on British roads since 1976 but has been regularly up-dated ever since. It wasn't until the third generation model that the Zetec badge appeared.
That was in 1992. The exotic-sounding name appeared on a sporty 16-valve version of the Fiesta. After that, as each Fiesta was modernised, the Zetec name re-appeared. Sometimes it referred to a range of Ford-produced engines, sometimes to a level of trim.
In Ford-speak, the Zetec badge generally means that this is a sportier than average model in the range - without being the extreme rally sport version. So, for many buyers, Zetec Fiestas became a very popular choice.
The Zetec S, for example, appeared in 2001, and became one of the iconic hot hatches of the period. Its 1.6L engine was available in other models too but it had sporty suspension and styling that made it stand out.
From 2002, and the fifth generation of Fiestas, the Zetec name was just used for the sports versions. ?Zetec S' models were even more lively. In the sixth generation, from 2008, the Zetec and Zetec S models offered great performance, handling and equipment levels.
If you are thinking of buying a used Ford Fiesta Zetec look carefully through all the different versions available and be sure to look on Motors.co.uk.
