The latest Ford Mondeo diesel is much more stylish and better equipped than the outgoing model; the well-appointed interior and sleek exterior clearly looking to sway buyers from competitors.
As well as a choice of a five door hatchback or estate, you can choose from a 120bhp 1.6L and a 2L diesel engine in 148bhp, 178bhp and 240bhp tunings. For fuel economy, low emissions and reduced road tax, the two lowest powered engines make the best financial sense. Comfort has also been significantly improved, the smooth, supple ride compensating for the slightly less involving handling.
Equipment is generous on the latest Mondeos, with even the cheapest models giving you dual-zone climate control, DAB radio and alloys. Splash out a bit more and you can also get electrically folding door mirrors, electric rear windows and heated windscreen. Top-spec models additionally offer sat-nav, sports seats and bigger alloys.
Longer than most of its competitors, the Mondeo offers lots of space for five adults and their luggage. In both body shapes the large boot can be almost tripled by folding down the back bench.
