The Ford Mustang didn't arrive in the UK until it was in its sixth generation, in 2015. Having entered into a new generation in 2024, the Mustang continues to be an attractive used car proposition, providing muscle car looks and driving thrills in abundance. Ford continues to update the Mustang's powertrains, design and features while maintaining the Mustang's exceptional value.

Used Ford Mustang information
Engines and transmissions
The Ford Mustang comes with a 5.0-litre V8 or 2.3-litre petrol engine, a manual or an automatic gearbox, and standard rear-wheel drive.
Petrol- 5.0-litre V8 GT engine ranges between 410bhp and 440bhp depending on the trim with an approximate 0-60mph time of 4.5-seconds.
- Outputs 446bhp in the Dark Horse trim, reaching 60mph in 4.3 seconds.
- Older 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine is only slightly slower at 5.6 seconds for 0-60mph, but it is more economical at 30mpg.
Practicality
The Mustang was designed to provide an exciting driving experience, but it does have a few practical features, including back seats and a decent size boot.
Interior space- Front headroom is ample and the sport seats are comfortable for long drives.
- Rear seats are better suited for children, though adults can squeeze back there if required.
- Lack of back doors means that rear-seat passengers must duck behind the front seats to get in and out.
- Two rear ISOFIX points can be used to secure child seats.
- 408-litre boot similar to the Audi A5 Coupe.
- Conventional boot lid has a release button that's mounted out of sight.
- Additional storage found in door bins and below the centre armrest.
- Two-door coupé provides iconic muscle car style.
- Two-door convertible allows for more enjoyment during warm, sunny days.
Safety
- Euro NCAP rating was two stars in 2017, mostly due to a lack of active driver assistance tech.
- Adult occupant rating is 72%.
- Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection is included with the standard kit.
Technology
- 13.2-inch infotainment system runs SYNC 4 software.
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto enhance connectivity.
- Amazon Alexa can be used with voice commands while driving.
Ford Mustang generations
Seventh Generation (2024 to Present)
The classic muscle car was completely redesigned for a new generation with a big powertrain shakeup, ensuring that it is the most potent version yet, at least in GT trim. There was also a new Performance Pack upgrade with a Torsen limited-slip differential, a front strut brace, active-dampening suspension and high-performance Brembo brakes.
Inside the cabin, the new Mustang has a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster and ambient lighting that adapts to each driving mode. Ford also released new interior materials and colours, including optional Recaro bucket seats.

Sixth Generation (2015 to 2024)
First arriving in the UK during this generation, Ford updated the Mustang to have a more retro-inspired look. It also arrived with a revised independent rear suspension to improve handling, keeping it on par with European coupes. A 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine from the Focus RS sat alongside the more traditional and desirable 5.0-litre V8.
Several updates were provided throughout this generation, including a minor redesign in 2018.

Used Ford Mustang FAQ's
Which is the most popular engine in the Ford Mustang?
Even though the EcoBoost engine is more efficient, the majority of drivers prefer the V8 motor. It offers a more thrilling drive, and a better exhaust note, which is what the majority of Mustang owners are looking for.
Which is the most popular trim level?
The newest Mustang lineup is available in two trims: GT and Dark Horse. The most popular model in our used inventory is the GT, which has a powerful V8 engine and upgraded sports features for a truly dynamic drive.
What optional extras should I look out for?
The Ford Mustang had many customisation options as a new car, so it is possible to find a variety of wheel designs, colours and graphics packages. Customers should also look out for the premium B&O stereo system for improved musical clarity.
Is the Ford Mustang a good family car?
Few people will purchase a Mustang with the intention of taking family trips, but there is room for children in the back and ISOFIX points to install car seats. While it may not be the most economical option for daily travel, it could be an exciting vehicle for a family holiday.
Is there a hybrid version of the Ford Mustang?
As the focus of the Mustang is on providing potent power and good handling, Ford hasn't yet created a hybrid powertrain. The EcoBoost four-cylinder has added efficiency, but it's not a hybrid.
Is the Ford Mustang available as an automatic?
Yes, Ford has manufactured the Mustang with automatic and manual gearboxes. Among used models available for sale, there's a nearly equal split between the two, making both easy to find.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
Ford has never made the Mustang with four-wheel drive. All models include rear-wheel drive for the ultimate performance car driving experience.
