In creating the CR-Z, Honda hoped to be one of the first manufacturers to get to market with a sports car style hybrid - and they were. The result is a car that is sporty enough to satisfy speed fans and economical enough to have great green credentials.
At the heart of the car is a 1.5L petrol engine whose power is boosted by a 14bhp electric motor which uses Honda's very successful IMA hybrid system. Together, they deliver fuel economy of over 55mpg.
You can choose your driving mode from options of Normal, Sport and Eco and the car's performance adapts accordingly.
In Sport mode, the car is very sprightly and the stiffened suspension helps it to glide around corners as if on rails while the Eco mode is, unsurprisingly, the most frugal. Whichever mode is in use, the car is a lot of fun to drive.
It's really only a two-seater and there's not a great deal of room in the boot. But that's not really important, as it is happiest zipping round town instead of taking on long motorway trips. In short, the CR-Z is a great car if you want more than just performance.
