Hyundai released the Ioniq in 2016 to compete against the Toyota Prius. However, Hyundai built the car to house a mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric configuration. The hybrid configuration was the same used in the Kia Niro, so there was no question about the reliability of the setup. However, before the Ioniq could reach a second generation, Hyundai discontinued the lineup in 2022. The nameplate is now used exclusively for cars in their fully electric lineup, including the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.

Used Hyundai Ioniq FAQ's
Which is the most popular engine in the Hyundai Ioniq?
Between the hybrid and electric configurations, the self-charging Ioniq is the most popular, with low running costs and a lower purchase price than the PHEV model.
Which are the most popular model variants?
Hyundai offers the Ioniq in several variants, including SE, SE Comfort, Premium and Premium SE. The last two are the most popular, with top-spec features such as electric seat adjustments and upgraded technology.
What optional extras should I look out for?
Many people enjoy the upgraded tech features, such as the larger infotainment touchscreen that offers real-time traffic data. Electrically adjustable seats are also helpful for taller passengers.
Is the Hyundai Ioniq a good family car?
Yes, the Ioniq offers a spacious and comfortable cabin with room for the tallest passengers. There's also a decent amount of boot space, especially with the hybrid models.
Is there a hybrid version of the Hyundai Ioniq?

The mild-hybrid 1.6-litre GDI engine produces 139bhp to create a 0-62mph time of 10.8 seconds, while the PHEV has the same output of 139bhp and allows for up to 39 miles of electric driving per charge.
