The XK sports car series was launched by Jaguar in 1996, but was replaced 11 years later by a new generation, which was produced until 2014. Both models are available as either two-door coupes or convertibles.
Jaguar's target was the prestigious German marques. The search for the very best components took its designers to Japan for the air conditioning, and Germany for the electronically folding canvas top for the convertible. The XK is now the biggest selling sports car in Jaguar's history.
The XK is ideally suited for high-speed, long distance journeys. It is a classic grand tourer, and can reach speeds of up to 155mph - depending on the engine and model. This four-seater car is luxurious, comfortable and makes for a fine and smooth ride, whatever the journey.
In terms of the engine, many of the available models tend to be powered by petrol - with engine sizes reaching 5L - and diesel engines tend to be a bit rarer. The new XK's engine sounded like 'someone dropped the London Philharmonic's percussion section down a lift shaft' reported the Daily Telegraph. You will also find the XK range in both automatic and manual gearshifts, so it is suitable for all drivers.
A super-charged, super-fast version of the XK appeared in 1998, called the XKR. In 2006, a new generation of XK cars was given a strikingly muscular, menacing and modern shape. The new R version had performance to match, with a 174mph top speed.
