If you're in the market for a great value and versatile people carrier, then the Kia Carens diesel could be a really practical choice - whether you go for the older five-seater option, or the post 2013 seven-seater version.
Older models come with a 2L CRDi engine that can deliver a very respectable 140bhp and from 2013 this was replaced by two versions of a 1.7L turbodiesel with power outputs of 144bhp and 134bhp respectively. Depending on the engine size there's a choice of six-speed manual or a four or six-speed automatic gearbox.
The seven-seater, in particular, offers all the space and flexibility you need for carrying both passengers and cargo and the car handles very well, especially considering its height. Later models even have the Kia FlexSteer system with three steering settings - Normal, Sport and Comfort.
Build quality and reliability are good - which is why most Kia's come with a full seven-year warranty from new. Equipment levels, especially on higher spec cars, are also excellent with features that include keyless starting and heated seats, as well as air-conditioning and parking sensors.
