About the Lamborghini Huracan

Remaining true to its tradition, the Italian carmaker named this model after a Spanish fighting bull, the Huracan, known for its courage. The name was probably because the car required courage to take on an ever-growing list of supercars. The Huracan comes with the standard 5.2-litre V10 engine, still positioned in the middle of the vehicle but heavily reworked. There is also a new 7-speed dual-clutch and a new aerodynamically-enhanced chassis. As a result, the entry-level 580 hp engine delivers a quick 0-60 mph sprint in just 3.4 seconds and maxes out at 200 mph.

What should you expect to find in a Lamborghini Huracan?

Like other Lamborghinis, you do not get trim levels on the Huracan. The main difference is in the engine units and the different model variants. The Huracan is available in 2 body styles, including the Coupe and Spyder. You can also choose from either an all-wheel-drive or a standard rear-wheel drivetrain. Key features on the Huracan include:

  • 20-inch wheels
  • Air conditioning
  • Electric front windows
  • Multi-function steering wheel
  • Passenger and driver airbags
  • Power steering

Like all supercars, Lamborghini leaves nothing to chance with the Huracan. It comes with best-in-class systems, including:

  • Anti-lock brakes
  • Child-safety locks
  • Front and side-impact airbags
  • Pre-tensioners
  • Stability control

The Huracan also comes with several security features, including an ignition-disable function that prevents the engine from starting when a non-OEM key is in the ignition.

Used Lamborghini Huracan FAQ's

What features are inside the Lamborghini Huracan cockpit?

You get a fighter-jet cockpit, solidly-built with 12.3-inch display housing several control modes and various instruments, including centrally placed speedo or tacho dials. The display unit may seem complex, but those already familiar with Audi's Virtual Cockpit will easily understand it.

Is the Lamborghini Huracan an exciting ride?

Before the Huracan was released, Lamborghini-badged cars struggled to provide an exciting driving experience for some time. Even though the Huracan's V10 engine isn't as aggressive as most of its predecessors, it's still relatively smooth with well-fabricated mechanics. The upgraded suspension also makes this Lamborghini supercar easy and exciting to ride.

Is the Lamborghini Huracan comfortable for a supercar?

Compared to other models in the category and cars within a similar price range, the Huracan is far from comfortable but still enjoyable and exciting to drive. Its stylish shape comes at the expense of usable cabin space, even though it offers superb visibility. In particular, the Spyder is too cramped for comfort, especially for long rides.

How does the Lamborghini Huracan measure up to its competition?

The Huracan struggled to achieve the same popularity enjoyed by its predecessor, the Lamborghini Gallardo. To make up for this, Lamborghini introduced the market to 2 different Huracan body variants: the Huracan Evo and the Huracan Performante. However, neither of these Huracan trims measure up to the range-topping McLaren 650S and the Ferrari 488.

What makes the Huracan Performante so unique?

The Performante is an upgraded version of the Huracan. As its name suggests, the Performante is a high-performance car designed by Lamborghini mainly to bring back some of the glory for the entry-level supercar. It features the new Lamborghini Active Aerodynamic 2.0 system (ALA) system. Shortly after its 2017 launch, the Performante achieved the fastest lap time around the legendary Nurburgring circuit track in history. It instantly became the world's fastest production car by completing the racing track's ring in a record-breaking 6 minutes and 52 seconds.

What is ALA, and how does it work?

The ALA, or Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva, is a sophisticated aerodynamic system that uses hydraulics and two active spoilers to improve its performance and high-speed handling. One of the spoilers is in the front, which acts like an upside-down plane wing when cornering. The flaps on the spoiler close, generating high down force to make bends at high speeds. The flaps then open for a split-second to reduce the drag and allow the car to accelerate quicker. The ALA-fitted Lamborghini Performante accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds.

Is the Huracan Performante faster than the Huracan Evo?

Both cars use the same engine, thus taking an equal 2.9-seconds to sprint to 60 mph from rest. You'll only notice the difference during a 0-125 mph sprint, where the Performante is faster than the Evo by 0.1 seconds. The Performante completes it in 8.9 seconds, whereas the Evo requires 9 seconds. If you need to choose between the 2, you should consider factors other than speed to decide which is best for you.

How safe is the Lamborghini Huracan?

Although it has never been crash-tested by the Euro NCAP, Lamborghini doesn't compromise on safety. Anti-lock braking systems, front and rear parking sensors, side and front impact beams, plus dual-stage driver and passenger airbags are fit to ensure occupants' safety.
