Maserati is one of the Big 3 Italian car manufacturers and produces some truly incredible autos. Renowned for luxury and attention to detail, it's one of the best producers of GT cars around. However it has a great racing background and performance certainly isn't lacking by any stretch of the imagination.
In true Italian style, the founding of the company was a family affair with 5 brothers pooling their expertise. Under the famous Trident badge, early models were racing cars and had some success. Later offerings included the 1936 C6M and 1947 A6, which were also geared towards racing.
Following an accident in 1957, Maserati started to concentrate on road cars and created the 3500GT, 5000 and Mistral in quick succession. The obvious extravagance of its cars in this period set the standard for all other Maseratis to come.
For a company that produced such incredible cars, it's surprising to see how many times it has changed hands. Owned by Citroen, Fiat, Ferrari and Alfa Romeo at different points during its history, each brand certainly made its mark.
The 1971 Bora, the Merak and Quattroporte were born under Citroen's reign and were great in the design department as you'd expect. Under Fiat, the 3200GT was created, along with the Spyder and later the GranTurismo- all excellent cars for cruising around in style. The Ferrari era has seen the mind boggling MC12 super car, updated Quattroporte and GranTurismo models as well as the GranCabrio.
If anything is obvious it's that despite a turbulent history and various different owners, the Maserati brand has stood the test of time and has never failed to excite and delight.
Buying a second hand Maserati is the best way to enjoy high quality Italian motoring for a small fraction of the cost. With fantastic discounts across a wide range of cars at Motors.co.uk, it's easy to find something special. Used cars for sale don't lose quality overnight, and autos baring the Trident stamp are full of it.
So if you're looking to drive a car that's fast, exciting and doesn't skimp on luxury, a Maserati is the perfect choice. Fantastic on the road and even better to look at standing still, there's no better addition to your driveway!
