Different generations of used Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Fifth Generation (2021 to Present)
To keep up with the push for electrification, Mercedes-Benz released the fifth-generation C-Class with plug-in hybrid powertrain options. It also had advanced tech features, such as rear-axle steering. From a design standpoint, the new Mercedes-Benz showcased a longer front end and additional sloping to the A-pillars, with a shorter decklid.
The interior design looked very similar to the S-Class with a dashboard divided into an upper and a lower portion. Large screen displays are installed on the centre console, while fuel efficiency became the focus of the engine lineup.

Fourth Generation (2014 to 2023)
With the release of a new generation, Mercedes-Benz made the C-Class sportier. An available aerodynamic bumper had swept-back headlights with rounded corners. There was also an AMG styling package with wider wheels and more aggressive bumpers.
A 2018 refresh added more value to the luxury car. New LED headlights were provided, and the grille was updated with a horizontal slat to highlight the three-pointed star. Along with some new engine options, the company also released an optional full-digital instrument panel and touch-sensitive controls.

Third Generation (2007 to 2015)
The third-generation C-Class was designed to be more suitable for families. Dropping the previous headlight design with the rounded style, the new model had a square design instead. It also came on a wheelbase measuring two inches longer than its predecessor, creating more rear legroom.
A mild refresh was offered in 2011 with a completely new front fascia and an in-dash infotainment system to replace the pop-out screen that was previously available. An upgraded 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox was also released to fix some problems with the previous model.

Used Mercedes-Benz C-Class FAQ's
Which is the most popular engine in the Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
The C 220d diesel engines have been among the most popular in the C-Class, because of their fantastic blend of efficiency and ample performance. The newer plug-in hybrid may start to become more popular in the coming years.
Which are the most popular trim levels?
Currently, Mercedes-Benz offers the C-Class in several trims: AMG Line, AMG Line Premium, AMG Line Premium Plus, AMG Premium, AMG Premium Plus, Night Edition and Carbon Edition. The most popular among used cars is the AMG Line because of its added features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, an Artico leather dashboard and a Nappa leather steering wheel.
What optional extras should I look out for?
Customers should look out for the available ‘augmented reality’ navigation system that displays the next turn on the instrument panel or centre screen. It's also possible to find a head-up display with advanced graphics for more functionality.
Is the Mercedes-Benz C-Class a good family car?
Yes, there is plenty of space for a family in the C-Class, particularly in the saloon and estate variants. Without a panoramic glass roof, there is maximum rear headroom, and there are ISOFIX points for the child seats.
Is there a hybrid version of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
In 2021, Mercedes-Benz released a lineup of plug-in hybrid engines for the C-Class. The C 300 e PHEV drives up to 68 miles on electric power with an output of 308bhp, before transitioning to hybrid power to allow you to continue your journey.
Is the Mercedes-Benz C-Class available as an automatic?
Yes, the most popular option has been the automatic transmissions, making these models easy to find in the used market. There are also some manual gearbox models available for those who want more control.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
Four-wheel drive is available, known as 4MATIC. These models aren't as popular as the front-wheel drive C-Class, so a little more searching may be needed, but the added capability is helpful when driving on slippery road surfaces.
