Engines and transmissions
The Viano has been available with both petrol and diesel engines, combined with an automatic or a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive.
Petrol- 3.2-litre V6 has an output of 218bhp and an efficiency rating of 23mpg.
- V6 upgraded to 3.5-litre later on, producing 254bhp for a 0-60mph time of 9.0 seconds and an average rating of 23mpg.
- Regular 3.5-litre engine generated 231bhp and a 9.7-second 0-60mph time.
- 2.0-litre diesel is the most economical with 114bhp that emits 215g/km of CO2, but it was replaced by an updated 134bhp version in 2006.
- 2.2-litre CDI creates 147bhp for a 0-60mph time of 12.6 seconds, which was increased to 160bhp and an 11.7-second 0-60mpg time in 2010.
- 2.8-litre CDI had a higher output of 201bhp, but the fuel economy dropped to 30mpg.
- 3.0-litre CDI also generated 201bhp, but was increased to 220bhp later on.
Practicality
While the Mercedes-Benz Viano can be difficult to manoeuvre in small areas, the added space is beneficial to large families or business executives.
