The first generation MG3 was launched in 2013, even though it shared the same platform as the previous models. Since then, the hatchback has entered its second generation with an modernised design language and more intuitive interior features.

Why buy a used MG MG3?
If you’re in the market for a car that’s stylish, powerful and spacious, then a used MG MG3 is a great choice. Its hybrid configuration offers better performance and power than its competitors, and for less money. The company's long warranty adds to the value, even for second and third owners, while the interior space provides enough room for a family.

Used MG 3 information
Engines and transmissions
Previously, the MG3 was only available with a petrol engine, but a hybrid model has recently been introduced. There are also automatic and manual transmissions with standard front-wheel drive.
Petrol- 1.5-litre produces 104bhp with a 48mpg efficiency rating and 140g/km of CO2 emissions.
Mild-hybrid version combines the 1.5-litre internal combustion engine with an electric motor for combined fuel economy of 64mpg. Performance is impressive too, thanks to a combined total of 191bhp on tap.
Practicality
For its compact size, the MG MG3 is spacious enough to accommodate a growing family and offers a good amount of boot space.
Interior space- Supportive front seats provide comfort to the driver, and height adjustment is available.
- More rear seat headroom and legroom than the Toyota Yaris.
- Outer rear seats have ISOFIX points for securing child seats.
- 293-litre boot is larger than the Yaris.
- Folding the rear seat creates more space for larger items.
Safety
- Newest models haven't been rated, but older Euro NCAP (2014) rating is three stars.
- Child occupant rating is 71%, with 69% for adult occupant.
- Standard kit includes several airbags, autonomous emergency braking, speed limit aids and lane-keep assist.
Technology
- 10.3-inch infotainment system looks similar to the one offered in the MG4.
- Connectivity is simple through Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth.
- Large driver display is easy to see and offers a lot of information.
MG 3 generations
First Generation (2013 to Present)
Even with MG no longer producing vehicles in the UK, the company released the MG3 in this country in 2013. Previously, it was known as the Rover Streetwise and this new model shared the same platform. The styling became more angular and the headlights stood out. Its bold appearance was topped with a unique front bumper and a mesh grille.
The car's interior showcased a large infotainment system on the centre stack with smartphone connectivity. There was also an instrument cluster reminiscent of the older brand.

Used MG 3 FAQ's
Which is the most popular engine in the MG MG3?
Up until recently, only a petrol engine was available, so this is what is most popular among used cars. However, the newer MG3 does come with a mild hybrid configuration, which offers impressive performance and fuel economy.
Which are the most popular model variants?
Petrol models come in Excite and Exclusive Nav, while the hybrid is available in SE and Trophy. The Exclusive seems to be the most popular variant among used MG3s, with standard sport seats, a rear parking camera, cruise control and a six-speaker sound system.
What optional extras should I look out for?
Customers should look out for leather upholstery, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. There is also keyless entry, which offers more convenience, while the 360-degree camera with a rear sensor provides added safety.
Is the MG MG3 a good family car?
Even though the MG3 is a smaller car, there's plenty of room inside for a family. The rear seats hold children with ease and there's a decent amount of boot space for carrying gear.
Is there a hybrid version of the MG MG3?
In 2024, MG released the first hybrid variant with a 1.5-litre internal combustion engine connected to an electric motor that outputs a combined 191bhp for an 8.0-second 0-62mph time.
Is the MG MG3 available as an automatic?
There have been automatic transmission options with the MG3, but they aren't nearly as popular as the lower-cost manual gearbox. You may have to do some additional searching to find a used MG3 with an automatic transmission.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
As a compact model, there's no reason to include four-wheel drive with the MG3. Instead, the company has supplied every model with standard front-wheel drive.
