Mitsubishi had gained a reputation for building affordable 4x4s with the L200, Shogun and Outlander. After all of its success, the company broke into the crossover segment with the ASX in 2010 to go up against the Nissan Qashqai. While a revision occurred in 2016, it didn't move beyond the first generation in the UK because the brand pulled out of the UK market altogether in 2021.

Engines and transmissions
Even though the Mitsubishi ASX wasn't available for more than a decade, there were plenty of powertrain options available. The vehicle could be purchased with a petrol or diesel motor, an automatic or a manual transmission, and front- or four-wheel drive.
Petrol- 2.0-litre became the sole option in the end, creating 147bhp for a 0-60mph time of 10 seconds and an efficiency rating of 37.7mpg with CO2 emissions of 171g/km.
- Older 1.6-litre produces 115bhp for an 11-second 0-60mph time and an efficiency rating of around 47mpg.
- 114bhp 1.8-litre engine with a 54mpg fuel economy rating replaced the older 112bhp 1.6-litre with a rating of around 61mpg.
- 2.2-litre is the most powerful diesel, generating 147bhp, but with a reduced fuel economy rating of 48mpg.
Practicality
As a small SUV, there is more room than is expected in the Mistubishi ASX, making it a good choice for young families.
Interior space- Front seats are spacious enough for tall adults, and available adjustability can help users find a better position.
- Less kneeroom in the back seat makes it better suited for children or shorter adults.
- Middle seat is much smaller, so it is best suited for children.
- 406-litre boot is larger than the Volkswagen T-Cross.
- 60:40 split rear seats increase the boot capacity to 1,193 litres.
- Low lip makes it easier to load heavier items.
Safety
- 2011 Euro NCAP rating is a perfect five stars.
- Adult occupant given the highest rating of 86%.
- Standard kit includes seven airbags, hill start assist and an emergency stop signal.
Technology
- 8.0-inch touchscreen display includes smartphone mirroring via AppleCarPlay and Android Auto.
- TomTom satnav available with higher-spec models.
- Main instrument panel has a colour information display.

Used Mitsubishi Asx FAQ's
Which is the most popular engine in the Mitsubishi ASX?
The petrol engines are more popular than the diesel engines. The most recent petrol option is a 2.0-litre that produces 147bhp for a 0-60mph time of 10 seconds and is rated at 37.7mpg with CO2 emissions of 171g/km. However, on the used market, the earlier 1.6-litre is also popular with its impressive power and decent fuel economy rating of 47mpg.
Which are the most popular model variants?
Mitsubishi offered the ASX in either Dynamic or Exceed models. Before that, a number system was used, with models known as 2, 3, 4 and 5. The mid-spec 3 models were the most popular as they had upgraded features such as privacy glass, climate control and heated seats.
What optional extras should I look out for?
Customers should look out for a panoramic sunroof, which is a good upgrade for the cabin. Some used models also have an electric driver's seat for better adjustment and black leather upholstery for a premium feel. Available safety features include rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist and blind spot warning.
Is the Mitsubishi ASX a good family car?
While the ASX doesn't have a huge back seat, there is plenty of room for children. The boot space is also adequate for a busy family, providing room to hold some luggage or bags.
Is there a hybrid version of the Mitsubishi ASX?
Before pulling out of the UK market, Mitsubishi didn't produce a hybrid variant of the ASX. The most efficient option is the 112bhp 1.6-litre diesel engine with a rating of 61mpg.
Is the Mitsubishi ASX available as an automatic?
Mitsubishi did offer both an automatic and a manual transmission with the ASX. The manual gearbox is more popular, and is likely to keep the cost down, but it's easy to find one with an automatic among used models.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
Yes, unique aspect of the Mitsubishi ASX is that four-wheel drive is available, making it more capable. It's a popular option among used models, so there's no problem finding one for a reasonable cost.
