One British automotive brand that is a true household name is Morris. Punching well above its weight, the company is synonymous with being plucky, persistent and positive. it's a true icon of its time, and has left a legacy most people won't forget, even if it was sometimes a bit awry.
Morris was established in 1910 and its first car was the Oxford 'Bullnose'. Assembled from imported parts, it was a great starting point. The company gained a reputation for quality and low cost, and popularity grew throughout 1920s as it established itself as the leading UK manufacturer. A 'sportier' offshoot was also created in the form of MG.
After the Second World War, the company created it's most iconic car- the Minor. This small, affordable and economical car helped the British public get back on their feet and deserves its place in history; it would also shape how the brand would be perceived from then on.
From the late 50s to the 80s, the marque was bought and sold by various companies and this ultimately led to its downfall as momentum couldn't be sustained and competition from imported brands was tough. Despite this the Marina an Ital were released although sales figures weren't as high as with previous models.
While not many exist today, you can find a good selection of second hand Morris cars at Motors.co.uk. Quality is generally good as they are seen as collector's items, especially the old Minor, and this means prices can vary. You'll be privy to generous price discounts, which is always a good thing when looking at cars for sale.
The fact is that Morris autos were hugely popular during their time. If you're looking for something a bit different that's got some history behind it, it could be the brand for you!
