Powertrains
There are two battery options on the Ariya, a 63kWh and an 87kWh version. With a range of up to 250 miles, the 63kWh version has plenty of range for day-to-day driving. With a 7kW charger, it takes around 10 hours to charge from empty to full. In comparison, charging at home from a 3-pin plug can take up to 29 hours.
The Ariya's 87kWh trim has much more range at hand, able to go around 310 miles on a full charge. Longer range means longer charging times, taking just under 12 hours with a 7kW charger and over a day with a 3-pin plug. The performance e-4orce version reduces the big battery's range to around 285 miles, but has the added benefit of more power.
Practicality
At the back of the Ariya is a 466-litre boot, which is smaller than other competitors in the electric SUV segment. The Skoda Enyaq, for instance, has 585 litres of boot space.
The lack of boot space is made up for in rear passenger space, which offers ample leg room even for taller occupants. Its Sloping roofline does mean the headroom feels slightly comprised, however. Passengers in the rear might notice their feet feeling a little higher than usual, thanks to the big battery located under the floor.
Safety
Scoring five out of five stars in the Euro NCAP, the Ariya has an adult occupancy rating of 86% and 89% for child occupant protection. As standard, the Ariya is fitted with numerous safety features that helped it achieve a 93% rating for safety assist systems. These features include lane assist and distance control. These systems are also connected to the car's navigation system to help slow down in time for speed limits, corners and junctions.
Technology
Besides the safety tech features, the Ariya has other gadgets up its sleeve. Top spec Ariyas come with a rearview mirror, which turns into a mini display when reversing and uses a camera on the back to provide a live feed.
