Nissan has long been a leader in rugged off-road 4x4s, as demonstrated by the Nissan Pathfinder that arrived in the UK in 2005. While Nissan is best known in the UK for the Juke and Qashqai, the Pathfinder joined the ranks with the Terrano and Patrol to offer more adventurous driving experiences. The seven-seater SUV shared a platform with the Navara pickup, making it both capable and practical. A slight refresh came in 2007, along with a boosted diesel engine in 2010, but the Pathfinder was discontinued in 2014 in the UK, replaced by the X-Trail.

Engines and transmissions
The UK's Pathfinder models received a petrol and diesel engine, paired to a manual or an automatic gearbox and standard four-wheel drive.
Petrol- 265bhp 4.0-litre V6 engine hit 60mph in 8.6 seconds but had a poor fuel economy of just 20mpg.
- 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder generates 168bhp, with output increased to 187bhp after a 2010 update, providing a 0-60mph time of 10.6 seconds.
- Later models had a 228bhp V6 engine.
- Most efficient models were capable of around 33mpg.
Practicality
The Pathfinder isn't cheap to run owing to its large size, but it does offer room for up to seven people, has strong towing ability, and benefits from a well-equipped cabin.
Interior space- High driving position offers a superior view of the road.
- All except the base model have seven seats as standard.
- Split/folding seats allow for a customised cabin space.
- Taller adults can fit in the rear two rows.
- 190-litre boot with all of the seats in position.
- Folding the third row increases the space to 515 litres.
- Using just the two front seats offers 2,091 litres of space.
- Split-rear tailgate has glass that opens independently so that bags can be dropped in quickly.
Safety
- 2006 Euro NCAP rating gave adult occupant four stars.
- Child occupant rating was three stars and pedestrian was two.
- Standard safety kit includes airbags (driver, passenger, curtain and side), ABS, electronic stability programme, traction control and three-point seatbelts.
Technology
- Standard equipment includes Bluetooth, MPG and AUX input.
- Available 7.0-inch touchscreen was offered on later models.
- Satnav was available with the touchscreen display.

Used Nissan Pathfinder FAQ's
Which is the most popular engine in the Nissan Pathfinder?
In the UK, it is difficult to find a petrol-engined Pathfinder. They are expensive to run, so most consumers opted for a diesel instead. These engines are more efficient and readily available on the used market.
Which are the most popular trim levels?
The Pathfinder was available in two trims: Acenta and Tekna. The Tekna tends to be more popular because of all the added equipment, such as a satnav system, larger 18-inch alloy wheels and a 7.0-inch touchscreen.
What optional extras should I look out for?
There are a few luxuries that were available for the Pathfinder, such as a wood finish centre console. Some models also have upgraded wheel designs for added style or the 7.0-inch infotainment system with the sat nav capability, though this will be outdated by modern standards.
Is the Nissan Pathfinder a good family car?
With seven seats inside, there's room for everyone in the family in the Pathfinder. It offers great towing ability and is equipped to take on uneven terrain, so it has been coveted by those looking for more adventure.
Is there a hybrid version of the Nissan Pathfinder?
The UK did not receive a hybrid Pathfinder. Only diesel and petrol engines were offered in this country. However, other markets do have a hybrid option for the 4x4.
Is the Nissan Pathfinder available as an automatic?
The Pathfinder was offered with both an automatic and a manual gearbox. Both are equally popular, so there shouldn't be an issue finding either among used cars.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
All Pathfinder models made for the UK market include standard four-wheel drive.
