One of the many very notable facts about this car is that it is the first ever Porsche to have a diesel engine and, not surprisingly, it's a match that's been very carefully thought through and executed.
It first hit the roads in 2009 powered by a choice of two diesels. The standard 3L V6 delivers very impressive economy figures of 39.2mpg for a car of this size and weight, while the more sporty option is a 4.2L V8 biturbo version. Transmission is provided by the manufacturer's exceptionally effective 8-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox.
With three suspension modes - normal, comfort and sport - it offers superb handling in any conditions as well as limpet-like cornering even at high speeds. You're also cosseted in quite some luxury in the cabin, with electronically-adjusted seats, climate and cruise control and a very powerful touch screen-controlled stereo.
Load carrying is best in class - at 1,780 litres with the rear seats folded down.
