Porsche invented the first sports SUV when it released the Cayenne in 2002. The goal was to take the powerful engines that the company was known for and pair them with a spacious, practical vehicle. All the hard work paid off as Porsche the Cayenne instantly became the brand's best-selling model. Used Cayenne buyers can choose from three generations, as well as various facelifts, each bringing more style, performance and technology.
First Generation (2002-2010)
The Cayenne was released to add a new dimension for the manufacturer, which previously only made sports cars. With the original Cayenne sharing a platform with VW, it was unclear how well the sports SUV would be received, but it went on to be the best-selling Porsche model of the time, proving that this was a desirable vehicle. Its original design looked a lot like the Porsche 911, with some elements that were all-new.
A 2008 refresh added a streamlined headlight design and DRLs that were put underneath, in the air scoops. New rear-view mirrors were also installed. Inside the cabin, Porsche added different dials and controls to the instrument cluster, making it more user-friendly.
