Following the success of the Nissan Juke, Renault launched the Captur into the small crossover segment with the 2013 model. It was based on the Clio but is more spacious and larger. The model went mostly unchanged until the second generation launched in 2019. Renault continues to make minor changes and styling upgrades so that it remains relevant in an ever-growing market.

Engines and transmissions
Used Captur are available with a wide range of engine options, including petrol, diesel and hybrid. These have all been paired to either an automatic or a manual gearbox and standard front-wheel drive.
Petrol- 1.0-litre engine outputs 89bhp with a rating of up to 48.7mpg.
- More powerful TCe 140 uses a 1.3-litre four-cylinder to generate 138bhp, getting to 60mph in 10 seconds.
- Self-charging E-TECH Hybrid 145 generates 140bhp by combining a 1.6-litre petrol engine and dual electric motors. Expect fuel economy of around 57mpg.
- E-TECH Plug-in Hybrid 160 uses the same setup but has a larger battery and produces 157bhp with an all-electric range of up to 30 miles per charge.
- Earlier second-generation models included Blue dCI 95 and 115 1.5-litre engines, which produced either 93 or 113bhp. These are good for around 55-60mpg.
- First-generation models included a 1.5-litre diesel that had an output of 88 or 108bhp, depending on the trim, and were capable of around 60mpg.
Practicality
With more space in the latest generation and plenty of adjustments, the Captur is ideal for family travel and daily driving.
Interior space- Adjustable driver's seat and steering wheel offer support for people of all sizes.
- Rear bench seats can be moved backwards and forward, allowing you to choose between boot space and extra rear seat leg room.
- Rear middle seat is best suited for a child only.
- With the back seats moved forward, there's a large 536-litre boot, which is bigger than the Volkswagen T-Cross and the Citroen C3 Aircross.
- Hybrid offers 440 litres of boot space, while the plug-in hybrid offers 379 litres. The battery packs do take up some of the capacity.
- Total boot space measures up to 1,275 litres with the rear seats folded down.
- No boot lip and a divider makes the boot more practical and easier to load.
Safety
- Perfect five-star rating from Euro NCAP.
- Adult occupant rating is 96%, while child occupant is 83%.

Renault Captur generations
Second Generation (2019 to Present)
With the release of the second-generation Captur, the platform was shared with the fifth-generation Clio, which is the same used by the Nissan Juke, allowing for a larger interior. New models received improved headlight design, shared with the Megane. New powertrain options were also released, increasing the efficiency and power.
A 2024 refresh brought sportier, narrow LED headlights to create a sharper style. Oblique slats were added to the grille, while a new air intake was installed on the lower bumper. These changes gave the Captur a bolder appearance. Between the three trims, various wheel designs and body colours, there were 17 different configurations to choose from.

First Generation (2013 to 2019)
In 2013, Renault extended the wheelbase of the smaller Clio and added some extra ground clearance to create the Captur. Very quickly, it became one of the most popular compact SUVs in the UK, thanks to its efficient engine options, raised driving position and low running costs. With its angled headlights, two-tone body options and large grille, the Captur became well known for its styling.
In 2017, Renault released a small design refresh. Uniquely sculpted doors were added to make the Captur appear longer, while a roof spoiler was added to the rear end. The rear bumper also received some styling upgrades, with the inside mostly unchanged.
