The Renault Megane first appeared in 1996. It is a range of small family cars that has been available as a hatchback, saloon, convertible, estate, people carrier and coupe at various times during its three generations. The second generation, called the CC, arrived in 2003 and was voted European Car of the Year.
The coupe has always had the same mechanical layout as the others: a conventional front-mounted engine driving the front wheels.
There's a versatile range of economical or performance engines to choose from too. The most popular models tend to come in either 1.4L or 1.6L petrol engines, or with a 1.5L diesel motor under the hood - the 1.5L dCi is a firm favourite. The third incarnation of the Megane Coupe appeared in 2009. This is a more distinctive and desirable model - it is an attractive sporty three-door with impressive handling and a comfortable ride.
Although the Megane is predominantly a three-door car, it's still a five-seater with a useful boot space with impressive handling and a comfortable ride. It's a very swift and fun to drive car. The on-board technology will vary from the age of the car, but the latest models include all the standard features you'd expect, and even use a stop-start system to ignite the engine.
