The Skoda Fabia was released in 2000 when it replaced the Felicia. Offered in several bodystyles, the Fabia had shared components with the Seat Ibiza and Volkswagen Polo. Since then, it has been through four generations, each bringing updated styling and refined technology, ensuring that it remains one of the UK's favourite hot hatches.

Skoda Fabia generations
Fourth Generation (2021 to Present)
Sharing a platform with the Skoda Scala, the fourth-generation Fabia became the largest to date, while still being considered a supermini. Compared to the previous version, this Fabia's wheelbase grew by 9cm, which means that there's more interior space. However, Skoda did discontinue the five-door estate from the options, leaving only the hatchback.
The high-end interior rivalled those of Volkswagen and Audi with plenty of space for relaxation. Skoda also released some of the 'Simply Clever' touches that make life easier, such as an umbrella in the driver's door, a centre partition between the passenger and driver, and a USB in the roof lining for powering dashcams. Powertrain options were upgraded for the new generation, adding more power and efficiency to some models.

Third Generation (2015 to 2021)
The most significant change in engineering was that Skoda was able to cut 65kg of weight from the Fabia's design, making it more efficient overall. While the exterior styling didn't change much from the previous generation, this Fabia had much more equipment and technology included. Even the base model now included six airbags, Bluetooth, DAB digital radio and engine stop-start.
For a short time, Skoda discontinued all diesel models, leaving only petrol motors to choose from. There was also a 2021 update that changed the look of the steering wheel.

Second Generation (2007 to 2014)
At the start of the second generation, Skoda discontinued the four-door saloon bodystyle, leaving just the estate and hatchback models. However, Skoda did release a rugged Scout trim that gave the Fabia more appeal. The lineup also grew longer and taller than the previous generation, offering more luggage and passenger space.
Skoda offered many engine options, including a vRS hot hatch that provided sportier handling. For those looking for efficiency, Skoda had the Greenline II with a rating of up to 83.1mpg and minimal running costs.

Used Skoda Fabia FAQ's
Which is the most popular engine in the Skoda Fabia?
Because the diesel engines weren't available with every generation, the petrol models are more popular and a lot easier to find. There are options designed for efficiency and others offering more power.
Which are the most popular trim levels?
Currently, the Skoda Fabia is available in four trims: SE Comfort, Colour Edition, SE L and Monte Carlo. The base-level SE Comfort trim has proven to be the most popular, with many features coming as standard, including a leather steering wheel, clever storage compartments and LED headlights.
What optional extras should I look out for?
Customers who spend time driving when it's cold outside may wish to look out for the available Winter Package that included heated front seats, a heated windscreen, dual-zone climate control and a heated steering wheel. Also, the available panoramic sunroof is a nice touch.
Is the Skoda Fabia a good family car?
At first glance, the Fabia may look like it is going to be too small for busy families, but that's not the case. The back seat is surprisingly spacious, with room to install child seats. The boot is also larger than you might expect, and there is the option to put down the back seats in order to carry larger items.
Is there a hybrid version of the Skoda Fabia?
Skoda has never made a hybrid version of the Fabia, though some models are extremely efficient.
Is the Skoda Fabia available as an automatic?
Skoda has offered the Fabia with an automatic transmission. However, they are slightly less popular than the manual gearboxes, making them more difficult to find among used cars.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
No, Skoda only made the Fabia with front-wheel drive. Even the rugged Scout version had front-wheel drive, which provides more than enough capability for city navigation and motorway cruising.
