If you want a car that has all the characteristics of a hot hatch with plenty of practicality too, the Skoda vRS could be the car for you.
It's been in production in various guises since 2005 and has always been largely based on the Volkswagen Golf GTI - which gives you a clue about what to expect when you get behind the wheel.
Across all models, there's a fairly straightforward choice of a 2L petrol turbo or diesel engine. The former is best if you're looking for sheer performance, while the latter is a little more frugal. There's also the choice of six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
For a sporty car, the vRS is remarkably comfortable and even the harder racing suspension doesn't seem to translate into judders and shakes in the cabin. One thing you will notice, though, is the throaty roar of the engine when you put it through its paces.
The car features Skoda's highest levels of equipment, including parking sensors, automatic headlights, traction and stability control, hill-hold assist and lane assistant for motorway driving.
So if you're looking for a refined but exciting hot hatch that is also very practical, it's well worth a look. You can find a great choice of deals on a used Octavia vRS on Motors.co.uk.
