Subaru Tribeca generations

Subaru Tribeca

Big SUVs seem to grow on trees these days, but if you want something a bit different, consider the Subaru Tribeca. Officially known as a crossover because it's essentially a larger and more muscular version of the Legacy, there's a lot to like. From the impressively rugged designs to the nicely designed cabin, it's an excellent option for families in particular.

Named after a neighbourhood in New York City, the Tribeca was unveiled in 2005 and sale began in Europe in 2006. it's definitely a big boy, and the first generation in particular looked very commanding with the front grille from the Impreza. Not everyone liked it however and so a massive face lift was performed in 2007. Available in various models, the 7 seater will appeal to large families who need versatility. Even though it's fitted with permanent 4 wheel drive, the Subaru is definitely most at home on tarmac as opposed to rough terrain.

To be honest the first generation was actually great to look at because it was unlike anything else in the niche. Quirky but powerful, it looked a bit like a face sporting a moustache- kind of like a brutal army Sergeant. However the facelift stripped all of this away and moved it back down into the rather generic category. Interior wise, the Subaru is just massive and very comfortable. The 5 seat model is good enough, but the 7 seater does offer more practicality. A curvaceous modern cabin with a lot of chrome looks nice and a good load of kit can also be found. The boot is a substantial 450 litres, which is large to say the least.

Driving the Tribeca is easy thanks to the 4x4 system which delivers superb traction in all kinds of conditions. it's got a lot of grip, corners well and is very well behaved most of the time. it's not really armed with off roading gear, but could probably venture down a gravel track or two. Towns, back roads and motorways aren't a problem, and the 3.0 and 3.6 litre engines deliver a good level of performance, even though they are thirsty.

Motors.co.uk is undoubtedly the best place to go in order to get your hands on an excellent second hand Subaru Tribeca as used cars for sale are its speciality. With literally thousands available, you'll see nothing but the finest quality autos at savagely reduced prices. Locating a great deal is all but a given.

Plainly then, the Subaru is a rugged and hardy on road SUV that performs well and looks good overall. While earlier models are arguably the most stylish, later versions are just as imposing. A spacious interior boasts practicality and comfort, so families in need of a solid car for everyday driving won't be disappointed at all. It might be a beef cake, but it's very friendly.
