The busiest months for new car sales are March and September, which results in lots of part exchanges becoming available on the used market, giving you more choice. You may be able to negotiate a better price in April and October, when dealers are looking to move on cars that haven't sold.
In the UK, it's considered normal for a car to have covered anywhere, between 10,000-15,000 miles per year. So a 3 year old car with 30,000 miles would have average mileage.
More often than not, the older a car is, the more miles it will have on it. Higher mileage cars will often need a bit more maintenance than lower mileage examples, meaning you might need to replace things like brake parts and batteries. A detailed service history and maintenance file will help you understand what's already been done, and what might be needed in the future to keep the car in good working order.
