For many years, Porsche was only known for making sports cars. However, in 2009, Porsche decided to add sports-car performance to a four-door model, known as the Panamera. Now in its third generation, the Panamera is still a top option for buyers who are looking to achieve speeds similar to the 911 but who want more seating room and practicality.

Why buy a used Porsche Panamera?
If you're in the market for a car that's agile, stylish and luxurious, then a used Porsche Panamera is a great choice. With its well-designed exterior and interior styling, the Panamera is undeniably a Porsche, but is a more practical model. The array of powertrain options allows for superior acceleration or lower running costs with the hybrid models.
Porsche Panamera snapshot review

Engines and transmissions
There have been several options with the Panamera, including petrol, diesel and hybrid engines, a manual or an automatic transmission, and rear- or four-wheel drive.
Petrol- 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 outputs 348bhp, creating a 0-62mph time of 5.3 seconds and efficiency of up to around 29.1mpg
- 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid use the V6 engine with an electric motor to generate 463bhp or 536bhp
- Turbo E-Hybrid has a 4.0-litre V8 engine and an electric motor to output 671bhp for a 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds.
- PHEV model's electric range can reach up to 58 miles per charge, and fuel economy is up to 200mpg
- Older Turbo S is the fastest non-hybrid with 621bhp and a 0-60mph time of three seconds, but fuel economy was only up to 22.1mpg
- Porsche used to offer a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that generated either 246bhp or 295bhp and a fuel economy of 44mpg
Practicality
The Porsche Panamera is a more practical option than the 911, giving rear passengers a place to relax and unwind.
Interior space- Front seats are adjustable and supportive
- Rear seat is usually configured with two separate sections, but a three-person bench option can be found
- Adjustable rear seats are available
- ISOFIX mounting points lock child seats in securely
- Glass sunroof is split into two panels and provides a brighter cabin space
- 495-litre boot is larger than the Mercedes-Benz CLS
- Folding down the rear seats creates 1,334 litres of space
- PHEV reduces the boot capacity to 403 litres, which is still accommodating
- Large hatchback design has been available since its introduction
- Sport Turismo was a previously offered estate variant that is now discontinued
Safety
- No Euro NCAP safety rating offered
- Safety kit includes parking sensors and a reversing camera
- Autonomous emergency braking has been available
Technology
- 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen looks stylish and is easy to use
- Connectivity comes through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Standard kit includes a satnav, Wi-Fi hotspot and USB-C ports
Porsche Panamera generations
Third Generation (2023 to Present)
Many of the changes with the third-generation Panamera weren't easy to recognise. The car still resembled a 911 with a larger size and four LED blocks for headlights. It fits perfectly with the design of the Cayenne and other Porsches. The only major exterior differences between this and the last generation are the unique headlights and updated bumper design.
Inside the cabin, many more updates were made. A fully digital driver display draws immediate attention. The company also upgraded the engine options, ensuring drivers can access increased power.

Second Generation (2016 to 2023)
Porsche wanted to build on the success of the first generation, so the company decided to change some small aspects of the styling to make it appeal to more people. The short bonnet and similar headlights to the 911 made it a top choice among enthusiasts who needed more interior space.
In 2020, Porsche released an updated variant of the Panamera with a redesigned bumper and rear light strip running over the boot lid. New LED taillights were also installed, but the three-piece retractable wing remained.

First Generation (2009 to 2016)
When the Panamera first arrived in 2009, it was seen as an extension of the 911 with more doors and interior space. The premium sports saloon looked similar to the Cayenne SUV with big vents that extracted air from the wheel area to decrease front lift. The cabin had a four-seat layout with plenty of support for passengers.
A 2013 update was released to deal with some issues found after the original unveiling. The most significant improvement was the replacement of the bi-xenon headlights with full LED lamps. The front and rear bumpers received a design refresh, while larger side scoops were installed.

Which are the most popular model variants?
Porsche names its models based on the engine configuration, with the new lineup including the Panamera, 4, 4 E-Hybrid, 4S E-Hybrid and Turbo E-Hybrid. The 4 has been the most popular variant, as a step up from the base model with added power, but both contain many of the same features.
What optional extras should I look out for?
The Porsche Panamera was available with a standard four-seat configuration, but there are some models with a rear bench seat to hold three. There are also upgradable safety features found in some used cars, such as autonomous emergency braking.
Is the Porsche Panamera a good family car?
The Panamera is a practical sports car, combining the power and excitement of the 911 with the ability to carry four adults comfortably. It's designed for families who prefer a luxurious experience or for executives who want to impress.
Is there a hybrid version of the Porsche Panamera?
Most of the newest models contain a hybrid powertrain. Some models can achieve up to 58 miles of electric-only travel, while the Turbo E-Hybrid is known for its 4.0-litre V8 engine and electric motor that generates 671bhp and has a 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds.
Is the Porsche Panamera available as an automatic?
The newest lineup of Panamera models comes with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Most used Panameras also have an automatic, making it difficult to find a manual gearbox option.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
The majority of used Panamera models have four-wheel drive for added capability. There are also models with rear-wheel drive that give the luxury car a sportier feel.
