Generations
While the Ford Ranger badge has been used since 1983, it has only been available as a pickup in the UK since 1998. Over the years, Ford has taken the Ranger through four generations. It was originally a utility-focused vehicle, and is now something more enjoyable and consumer-driven.
Fourth Generation (2023-present)
The newest update is extensive, with various cab options and several powertrain choices. The interior has also been equipped to take on more technology with added comfort features sprinkled throughout.
Off-roading is fun in the Ranger, especially with the Raptor models. With this new generation, Ford is trying to show that there is more to trucks than utility - they can be a lifestyle vehicle, too.
Third Generation (2011-2020)
For the 2011 lineup, the Ford Ranger shifted to a T6 platform. It also showcased a more muscular appearance that helped to give it more road presence.
A refresh for 2015 added some front-end rework and interior upgrades. An 8-inch infotainment screen was added to the SYNC 2 software for better connectivity and function. Added safety features also came into play, such as rear park assist and adaptive cruise control.
Second Generation (2006-2011)
2006 brought a Ford Ranger that bettered its predecessor in many ways. Ford improved the payload and towing numbers, along with a more sophisticated interior. During this time, Ford started appealing more towards the everyday driver and not just workers. Turbodiesel engines were used, increasing the power significantly.
