The Vauxhall Astra Life is a popular lower end trim from a few years ago that offers great value for money and a very solid solution. Ideal for families or people on a budget, it's well built, practical, nicely equipped and very easy to drive. What you get is something that's very safe and reliable, and just positive all round. Powered by 1.4 to 1.8 litre petrol engines, as well as 1.3 to 1.7 litre diesels, running costs aren't high at all, but there's still a nice amount of zip.Quite a stylish motor from the outside, the Vauxhall Astra Life is also well designed on the inside where there's a lot of room, a nice trim finish and solid build quality. With a 350 litre boot, everyday tasks are straightforward, and kids can sit in the back without trouble. In terms of equipment, you'll note air con, steel wheels, CD stereo, cloth seats, electric windows, airbags and remote locking. Remember it is a lower end trim after all. However the driving experience is great and you always feel in control; cornering is positive thanks to a good setup and grip level too. Pay £3,000 used.
