First arriving in 2008, the Vauxhall Insignia was designed to usher in a period of improved design, quality and engineering for the Vauxhall brand. The Insignia instantly achieved success as it was refined, modern and attractive. While a second generation of the car was launched in 2017, Vauxhall decided to discontinue production in 2022 to focus on SUVs and electric cars.

Different generations of used Vauxhall Insignia
Second Generation (2017 to 2022)
The Insignia Grand Sport was completely revised for the new generation with sporty styling and sleek, sharp lines. The front end became narrower, and the LED headlights were angled differently to create a more aggressive appearance. Vauxhall also used a longer wheelbase than with the first-generation Insignia, creating more space.
The seating was revised at the same time, adding more comfort to the front seats as well as electrically adjustable options. Because of the longer wheelbase, rear passengers were provided with extra leg and head room, even with the sloping roofline design.

First Generation (2013 to 2014)
Originally, Vauxhall thought of using the Vectra name and starting a new generation but eventually ended up creating a new car and giving it the 'Insignia' nameplate instead. Vauxhall scrapped its existing plans and started from the ground up because a larger vehicle was needed. Originally offered in three body styles – the saloon, hatchback and estate – the lineup was complete.
In 2013, a refresh occurred with redesigned headlights and new LEDs. A broader grill with three horizontal bars, and a lower bumper housed bigger side intakes surrounded by chromed trim were used. Inside the cabin, Vauxhall ensured an ergonomic design to the seats, providing more support and comfort.

Used Vauxhall Insignia FAQ's
Which is the most popular engine in the Vauxhall Insignia?
The diesel engines were far more popular than the petrol models. Among used cars, it's easy to find an Insignia with the 2.0-litre engine, either with a single turbocharger creating 167bhp or with the twin-turbo setup for 207bhp.
Which are the most popular trim levels?
Vauxhall offered the Insignia in several trim levels: Design, SRi, SRi VX-Line Nav, Tech Line Nav, Elite Nav and GSi Nav. The most popular is the SRi, which is a step up from the base level, offering dual-zone climate control, active front seats, a sporty rear spoiler and ambient LED lighting.
What optional extras should I look out for?
With the Insignia, there are a lot of tech upgrades available, such as satnav or a premium stereo system. Customers should also look out for leather upholstery and heated front seats.
Is the Vauxhall Insignia a good family car?
Yes, with several body styles and plenty of high-tech features, the Insignia was designed with families in mind. All models have a spacious cabin and an accommodating boot for holding plenty of cargo.
Is there a hybrid version of the Vauxhall Insignia?
No, the Insignia was discontinued in 2022 before Vauxhall equipped it with any hybrid powertrains.
Is the Vauxhall Insignia available as an automatic?
Some engine variants are available with an automatic gearbox, but they are not as popular as the manual configurations. Customers looking for a used Insignia with an automatic may have to search a little harder, and the cost may be slightly higher.
Is there a four-wheel drive version available?
Vauxhall didn't make a lot of Insignia models with four-wheel drive, but there are some available; they are just more difficult to find than the standard front-wheel drive options. In most driving situations, front-wheel drive is going to be sufficient.
