Why buy a used Vauxhall Vectra?
Vauxhall continued its legacy of producing class-leading fleet cars with the Vectra's huge load capacity, practicality and handling. However, as it came in 2 unique body styles besides the predominant hatchback, versatility was its main strength. In 2008, the Vectra gave way to the Vauxhall Insignia, but it is still a preferred model for those looking for cars for regular long-distance journeys. Used Vauxhall Vectra FAQ's
Which engine options are available across the Vauxhall Vectra range?
The Vectra's engine options across the range can get confusing due to the lack of systematic progression with higher-spec levels. The Vauxhall Xclusive and Life offer either a 1.8-litre petrol motor or a 1.9-litre diesel, while the SRi offers nearly the entire range of engine options, except for the V6 petrol. The Design trim has the same engine as entry-level Vectras, but it adds a 2.2-litre petrol motor. The Elite comes available with all engine options, except for the 1.8-litre petrol.
Is the Vauxhall Vectra easy to handle?
The first-generation Vectra offered sub-par handling capacity. However, after Vauxhall made several improvements in subsequent generations, the Vectra now delivers a well-refined driving experience. Although it slightly trails finely tuned models, like the Ford Mondeo, the Vectra's feedback and damping performance are impressively nod-worthy.
How many occupants can the Vauxhall Vectra comfortably seat?
The Vauxhall Vectra is a large family car that comfortably seats 5 adults, with excellent legroom and headroom. The Vectra estate is even more spacious, with seating for 4 adults, plus 3 kids in the rear row. Designed as a fleet vehicle, the Vectra makes long rides comfortable, particularly with its well-thought-out supportive and comfortable seats.
What is the cost of owning a Vauxhall Vectra?
Regardless of the style or trim variant you buy, the running costs remain relatively the same throughout the range. The petrol engines offer between 25-35 mpg, while the diesel engines add an extra 7-10 mpg to the Vectra's fuel economy. However, turbocharged engines are thirstier than non-turbos. For CO2 emissions, the annual road tax is between £190-?305 for standard Vectra versions, but it can go up to £535 if you choose the high-emission V6 petrol engine.
How much storage space is available on the Vauxhall Vectra?
The saloon and hatchback Vectras have 500 litres of boot capacity, while the estate is the most spacious, providing cargo room of 530 litres. The square-shaped and low-lipped boot in the Vectra makes loading and unloading easy. Folding the rear seats increases cargo space to 1,360 litres and 1,800 litres for the saloon, hatchback and estate, respectively.
What are suitable alternatives to the Vauxhall Vectra?
The Vauxhall Insignia is the successor to the Vectra, so it offers more up-to-date performance and equipment. However, if you need to look elsewhere, consider the Ford Mondeo, which handles better and provides a more refined driving experience than the Vectra.
What safety features come with the Vauxhall Vectra?
The Vauxhall Vectra underwent 3 Euro NCAP safety tests throughout its lifetime. The last-generation Vectra scored a 4-star rating, a significant improvement versus the 3 stars previous generations earned. All Vectras include a range of standard safety features, such as 6 airbags, height-adjustable safety belts and belt-force limiters. The Vauxhall Safety System also adds active head restraints to protect against injuries, like whiplash.
