Volvo is famous for its large, practical estates, and the V70 carries on their legacy. The seats are among the comfiest in its category, and you also get a built-in children's booster cushion in the rear, making it an ideal family Estate. The Swedish carmaker offered 6 engine options with the final-generation V70, including 4 diesel and 2 petrol units. The lower-power engines in the line-up are moderately speedy, averaging 0-100 kph in 10.1 seconds. The all-powerful 3.0-litre T6 engine hits 100 kph in a blistering 6.1 seconds and a maximum of 245 kph.
What should you expect to find in a Volvo V70?
The final V70 version came in 3 trim levels: the SE, the SE Lux and the R-Design trim. Thanks to its high-quality equipment, the entry-level SE trim measures up to most of the V70's high-end rivals. Standard features in the base trim include:
- 160-watt 8-speaker stereo
- 17-inch alloy wheels
- Automatic rain-sensing wipers
- Automatic dimming rear-view mirror
- Cruise control
- Electric height-adjustable driving seat with lumbar support
- Hydraulic brake assist
- Leather steering wheel
- Auto-levelling front headlamps
Even though the R-Design is the sportiest trim, the SE Lux is the most luxurious. It comes with leather upholstery and 2 choices of wood trimming, including Modern and Walnut Wood. Standard equipment found with the SE Lux includes:
- 17-inch Canicula alloy wheels
- Electric-powered and heated front seats
- Luxury floor mats
- Powered tailgate
- Rear park assist
- Silver-coloured aluminium roof rails
The R-Design comes with all SE features but includes a sportier design and kit, such as sports pedals, sports sears, sports gear lever and sports floor mats. It also gets a speed-dependent steering wheel that firms up as speed builds, in addition to larger 18-inch Cratus alloy wheels to improve its footprint. Other sports decals on the V70 are silver matt door mirrors, leather upholstery and unique R-design instrument dials.
